On Tuesday, November 8th, the NYHS History Club held a mock presidential election. Students and staff could "vote" in the Library during 6th & 7th periods via "ballots" constructed using Google forms. Approximately 165 votes were cast, and our results mimicked the national results in a startling way. Our results were: Clinton - 73, Trump - 71, Johnson - 18, Stein - 3.

NHSS link NHC newsletter link Today was our field trip to the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston, West Virginia. I was expecting it to be interesting, but I have to say that it was more unique than I had imagined.
The second-largest hand-cut stone building in THE WORLD (second only to the Kremlin), and the number one tourist attraction in West Virginia, TALA is a former state mental institution. Built during the Civil War, it has a million stories to tell -- stories of historical relevance, paranormal activity, and the despair of early mental health treatment. |
